When Whitney Houston died on February 11th at the age of 48, it brought the once luminous star’s story to its fateful closing. Long ago her star faded, eclipsed by her drug use and erratic behaviour. Her once magical voice was gone, traded to Ursula in exchange for her next high. While in the wake of her death, new questions are raised about the breadth and depth of her drug use and new accusations are levied about those in her inner circle (including ex-husband Bobby Brown and the extent of their daughter, Bobbi Kristina’s own alleged drug use), one thing remains unquestioned: the talent wasted. In a year in which we lost Etta James and Amy Winehouse, it seems especially hard to swallow that The Voice has been silenced. Regardless of the demons which made her deadly to herself, she was a gift to music. RIP, Whitney.
